Ben is the Head of the Department of General Surgical Specialties at The Royal Melbourne Hospital and Director of the Upper GI Tumour Stream for The Royal Melbourne Hospital, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and Royal Women’s Hospital. He is a Clinical Associate Professor at The University of Melbourne and an examiner in General Surgery for the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. Ben also holds the Chair-Elect for the Conjoint Committee for Recognition of Training in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (CCRTGE).
Originally a medical graduate of Melbourne University, Ben trained at The Royal Melbourne Hospital and was awarded his fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2001. He then completed further specialist training in Hepatopancreaticobiliary surgery at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne and The Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. He completed a Doctor of Medical Science at The University of Melbourne in 2013. As a published author, Ben has many cited research papers and is a sought-after speaker at local, national and international meetings.
Ben consults in private practice and currently holds public hospital appointments at The Royal Melbourne Hospital and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. His approach to patient care is led by genuine compassion, care and a commitment to achieving the best possible outcome.
