Associate Professor Val Usatoff is a specialist General Surgeon with a postgraduate interest in HPB (Hepatic, Pancreatic and Biliary) surgery. He trained at Monash University where he graduated with Honours and completed General Surgery training at the Alfred Hospital. He underwent further training with Profs’ Williamson and Habib at the Hammersmith Hospital in London and then went on to achieve a coveted position as the Paul McMaster Fellow in HPB surgery at the QE Hospital in Birmingham, UK. He stayed on for another year at Addenbrookes, the Cambridge University Hospital, to further hone his skills in HPB and Upper GI Surgery.
Val has recently completed a Masters of Health Services Management (MHSM) through Monash University and based on his thesis and entrance exam, has been granted Fellowship of the Australian College of HSM and is currently completing a Masters degree in eHealth. Val has appointments as an Adjunct Senior Lecturer in Surgery at Monash University and is an Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Melbourne. With 20+ years of experience as a HPB surgeon he has contributed to over 40 publications in peer-reviewed journals and authored 19 book chapters in all areas of HPB Surgery. He has the previously been the convenor of the Victorian HPB Surgery journal club and is the chairman of the HPB/Upper GI MDT cancer meeting at Cabrini Hospital.
